Our brewery takes its name from the Unicorn Inn which was bought by William Robinson on the 29th September 1838. This stood on what is now the bottom yard in Lower Hillgate, Stockport. William was joined in 1865 by his younger son Frederic, who started to brew beer for other local hostelries. Now run by the fifth and sixth generation of the family, Frederic Robinson Ltd continues to develop whilst still using traditional brewing methods. We are committed to producing the very best beer, by using top quality malt and hops and using water from our very own bore hole that is as deep as Blackpool tower is high. It has filtered through 158 meters of Cheshire Sandstone to produce some of the country’s most famous beer, one of which being OLD TOM... voted the world’s best ale 2009 by beers of the world magazine |
